Pork roast slow cooked in root beer to tender perfection then shredded and served on slider buns with a delicious sweet and savory sauce.

A delicious and easy anytime meal, the slow cooker infuses only the sweetness of the root beer into the meat (without the taste) and makes the pork fork tender.

A thick, homemade sauce adds the perfect subtle hint of root beer back into the sliders, So easy and so good!

Do Pulled Pork and Root beer taste good Together ?

It may seem like the pork is going to taste like root beer but this is totally not the case!

The pork takes on the sweetness of the root beer but there really isn’t any detectable root beer taste to the meat at all, just sweet tender pulled pork.

For the sauce, the combination of chili sauce, root beer, salt and heat create a sweet, thick, homemade bbq sauce with just the slightest hint of root beer. The perfect compliment to the pulled pork.

Slider buns are our favorite way to enjoy this recipe but sometimes we skip the buns and enjoy it without. Drizzle the sauce over the meat just prior to serving for the best flavors!

What You’ll Need to Make Sweet Pulled Pork Sliders with Root Beer Sauce

  • Cooking Oil – We use canola, vegetable or olive oil.

  • Pork Roast – Boneless pork roast is best for this recipe, about 2 pounds.

  • Pantry Staples – Salt & pepper,

  • Onion – We use one medium yellow onion, diced. White onions, sweet onions or shallots may be used instead.

  • Root Beer – 2 cans any brand root beer NOT diet, about 3 cups, divided.

  • Chili Sauce – One 12 ounce bottle, located near ketchup in the grocery store.

  • Slider Buns – Optional. We like the Kings Hawaiian buns with this pulled pork but it can be served without them as well!

How to make Sweet Pulled Pork Sliders with Root beer Sauce

This is one of our tried and true family favorites. A simple recipe that assembles quickly and cooks throughout the day. Just make the sauce and dinner is served!

Picture of browned pork roast in a skillet.

Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

Generously season the roast with salt and pepper then place into the hot skillet and brown on all sides, 6-10 minutes.

Browning the roast in the skillet makes the pork more flavorful and seals the outer crust, giving it a better texture even after spending all day in the slow cooker.

Place browned roast into slow cooker. Add 2 tsp of salt, black pepper, diced onion and one can of root beer. Do not use diet rootbeer for this recipe.

Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours (or high for 4-5 hours) until meat shreds easily with a fork.

About 30 minutes before serving, whisk together the remaining can of root beer, chili sauce and 1/4 tsp of salt. Heat over medium-high heat.

Chili sauce is typically found near the ketchup in the condiment aisle and it is not spicy.

Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium. Cook 8-10 minutes, stirring often, until sauce is glossy and reduced.

Shredded pork on a plate with two forks.

Remove pork from slow cooker, discarding liquid. Shred the pork with two forks or smash with a potato masher.

Place pork on buns and spoon sauce over the top. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
