How to Make Parker House Dinner Rolls

One of our favorite things to do is to bake homemade dinner rolls for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The rest of the year we keep the recipe tucked away, but this recipe is our go-to during the holiday season!

These dinner rolls come out picture perfect, even for someone that doesn’t bake very often. The recipe is easy to follow and the results are fantastic.

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at baking dinner rolls, Parker House Dinner Rolls may just become part of your holiday tradition, too.

Small saucepan with milk & butter, sugar being added.

Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in butter pieces and sugar until dissolved. Set aside to cool.

Proofing the yeast for Parker House Dinner Rolls.

In a small bowl, stir together the warm water and 1 teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Leave for about 5 minutes until it becomes slightly frothy.

This is called “proofing” or “blooming” the yeast.

Ingredients being added to the stand mixer bowl.

In the bowl of an electric mixer combine the cooled milk and butter mixture, eggs, yeast mixture, salt and half of the flour. Using the dough hook, on low speed, combine until smooth.

Add flour 1/2 cup at a time on low speed until the dough forms a smooth ball. Your dough may need more or less than the full amount – add slowly and stop adding flour once the smooth ball has formed.

Note – It is VERY IMPORTANT to add the flour on slow speed. If it is mixed at a higher speed, the mixture stays too wet and the dough will never form a ball.
