How to Make Parker House Dinner Rolls
Fluffy, buttery, soft, and slightly sweet, this recipe for Parker House Dinner Rolls uses milk and butter in the dough.
These dinner rolls are the perfect compliment to a sit down dinner. The dough may be used immediately or frozen for later.

Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in butter and sugar and let it cool.

In a small bowl, combine the warm water with 1 teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Leave for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy. This is called “proofing” or “blooming” the yeast.

In the bowl of an electric mixer combine the milk mixture, eggs, yeast mixture, salt and 3 cups of flour. Using the dough hook, on low speed, combine until smooth.

Add flour 1/2 cup at a time on low speed until a smooth dough ball forms. It is VERY IMPORTANT to add the flour on slow speed. If it is mixed at a higher speed, the mixture stays too wet and the dough will never form a ball.
You may need more or less than the six cups that the recipe calls for. Once the dough comes together and forms a ball, stop adding flour.

Remove from the mixer and knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes. Then place into a large bowl that has been lightly sprayed with cooking spray.

Cover and allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.

After the dough has risen, punch it down and cut it into 24 individual pieces.
Note: An easy way to keep the portions even is to divide in the dough in half, then in half again, and continue the process until there are 24 even pieces.
Roll the portions into balls.

Another Note: 24 dinner rolls is too many for our family! The solution for us is to put 12 of the balls onto a baking sheet and freeze. Once frozen solid, transfer to a zip top bag.
To use: Set on baking sheets, allow to thaw and rise, then bake as directed.

Place the dough balls evenly onto two lightly greased baking sheets. Feel free to use parchment or silicone baking pads instead.

Cover and allow to rise 30-40 minutes.
When getting close to the end of the rise time, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Position the oven racks in the top third of the oven.

Bake the rolls in the oven for 20 minutes, rotating the baking pans halfway through the cooking time. The rolls should be nicely browned.

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and brush it over the buns before serving. Enjoy!
