Fresh, delicious and so easy to make, 5 Minute Classic Pico De Gallo is a traditional Mexican salsa bursting with the flavors of ripe tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeno and lime!

Also known in Mexico as Salsa Fresca, 5 Minute Classic Pico De Gallo is an uncooked salsa made up of chopped ripe tomatoes and other common pantry staples. It is delicious on all Mexican food and makes a great snack or appetizer when served with tortilla chips.

The best part of this Pico De Gallo is that it takes a short time to make and the longer it sits, the better it gets. A perfect party food!

Fresh ingredients for 5 Minute Classic Pico De Gallo

What You’ll Need to make 5 Minute Classic Pico De Gallo

  • Roma Tomatoes – You can use any tomatoes for this recipe but Romas have the best taste and are the least watery.

  • Onion – we prefer to use purple or red onion for this Pico De Gallo because of the flavor but you could use white onion, yellow onion or shallots instead.

  • Cilantro – fresh cilantro, chopped adds a bright flavor. If you don’t like cilantro you can substitute fresh parsley or skip it completely.

  • Jalapeno Pepper – Add as much or as little as you adjust the spice to your liking. Want to avoid the spice altogether? Substitute finely chopped fresh bell pepper instead.

  • Salt – seems like a small amount but it really brings the flavors together! The same amount of Kosher salt may be substituted.

  • Lime – use a medium sized, ripe lime to bring a bright burst of acidity to the Pico De Gallo. If you don’t have fresh lime, you can use 2 tablespoons of bottled lime or lemon juice.
