Surprisingly easy to make in the air fryer, Roasted Garlic is sweeter and milder than regular garlic, deepening the flavors of anything it is added to!
Roasted garlic is one of those things that I wish I had learned about sooner. Roasted garlic isn’t the same as raw garlic or even cooked garlic. The flavor is smooth and buttery rather than sharp and it is delicious on just about everything!
Using the air fryer, you can make roasted garlic just one bulb at a time which provides the perfect opportunity to start adding it to sauces, salad dressings, toast, pizza or whatever else you like!
Why You Should Make Roasted Garlic in the Air Fryer
- Making roasted garlic in the air fryer doesn’t take as long as it does in the oven. Roasting one garlic bulb takes about 20 minutes in the air fryer but in the oven it takes about an hour.
- Using the air fryer doesn’t heat up your house, which is kind of a big deal in the summer!
- You can roast it in small batches, even one bulb at a time if you want. I do this all the time, making just what I need!
Can I Roast Garlic in the Oven?
Of course you can! And I do, all the time when I want to roast a bunch of garlic bulbs at once, like if I am making pasta sauce.
The heat in the oven is more dispersed so cooking up a bunch of roasted garlic takes about an hour at 400 degrees rather than 20 minutes.
The benefits of using the oven are that the garlic gets even more caramelized, you are not limited on space and the house smells absolutely fantastic while it cooks!

How to make Roasted Garlic in your Air Fryer

Preheat the air fryer at 380 degrees F for at least 5 minutes.
In the meantime, using a sharp knife, cut off the top of the garlic bulb, leaving the root end intact.

Place the bulb cut side up in the center of a square piece of aluminum foil.
Pour the olive oil on top of the garlic and spread it all over the surface.

Bring the sides of the foil up and around garlic. Season with salt and pepper.

Twist the ends of the foil, sealing the garlic inside.
Air fry 18 to 20 minutes until the garlic is softened and caramelized.
Allow to cool slightly before opening the foil, and open carefully as hot steam will escape.
Remove garlic cloves from their papery casings before using. Enjoy!

Things you can Do with Roasted Garlic
Roasted Garlic is a really versatile ingredient! It can be used whole (delicious on pizza!), mashed (stirred into mashed potatoes or into vegetables – YUM), as a spread (on toast or crackers) or mixed in to your favorite condiments (mayo!), salad dressings or sauces.
I love to take the least expensive grocery store spaghetti sauce, add a few herbs, some Balsamic vinegar and roasted garlic and let people think that I made homemade sauce when all I really did was make it better.

You will need to remove the roasted garlic from it’s paper casings before you use it. This can be done individually by clove or you can just squeeze the whole bulb like in the picture above.
Whatever isn’t used should be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or frozen for up to three months. However, with so many ways to use it, chances are you won’t need to figure out how to store it!
