Rolo Turtles are simple, easy to make treats that combine salty pretzel, sweet caramel, and buttery pecan in one delicious bite. Perfect for sharing!
I love using the holidays as an excuse to fill my house with yummy treats of all different kinds! Much like the Christmas Pretzel M&M Hugs recipe, these Rolo Turtles take minimal effort and should totally be part of your holiday season, no matter if you share them or eat them all yourself.
These are so fast and easy to make. I don’t really know why I am not making them all year round? That combination of sweet and salty is such a wonderful combination, and the fact that they are bite sized? Perfection!
What you’ll need to make Rolo Turtles
- Square Pretzels – we use Snyder’s Snaps (we find these at WalMart or on Amazon) or regular small pretzels.
- Rolo Chewy Caramels in Milk Chocolate – We buy a 10 ounce bag and unwrap them all before we begin. If you can find the unwrapped kind, buy those. It will save you all sorts of time!
- Pecan Halves – we use a small to medium sized bag. We try to make the Rolo Turtles 50 at a time.
How to Make Rolo Turtles
Rolo Turtles are simple, easy to make treats that combine salty pretzel, sweet caramel, and buttery pecan in one delicious bite. Perfect for sharing!
Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper and lay out as many pretzels as you would like to use. This is for fast & easy clean up later!
The square pretzels that we use are called Snyder’s Snaps. You can’t buy them everywhere, but we have been able to purchase them both at WalMart and on Amazon.
If you can’t find them, rest assured that any mini pretzel will work for this recipe and it will taste just as good! Just use what you have.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. While it is preheating, you can unwrap the Rolos. This is probably the most time consuming part of this entire recipe.
As you unwrap them, set one Rolo in the center of each pretzel.
Once every pretzel has a Rolo, put the baking sheet into the oven on the middle rack for four minutes until the Rolos are soft and melty.
Please note: They won’t be all the way melted but they will be shiny and appear smoother.
Gently push one pecan half into the center of each melty Rolo. The Rolo will spread out to cover the majority of the pretzel and although some will also squish through the bottom, the Silpat or parchment paper will prevent them from sticking.
Continue until all of the Rolos have pecans squished into them. Don’t worry about trying to be fast about it – the baking sheet is warm so the Rolos will stay melty for long enough to get them all done.
If you have room, move the baking sheet to the refrigerator and allow them to cool. They are a lot easier to handle when the caramel has solidified. The hard part is keeping your family out of them!
These are so good and so easy and I hope that you make them, share them and enjoy them. Happy Holidays and Happy Cooking!
