Why make your own Holiday Treats?

The holiday season always makes me feel grateful for my friends and family. All year long we travel along doing our thing and we never really stop and appreciate what we have. As the end of the year approaches, no matter what holiday you may be celebrating, another whole year has come and gone.

Holiday treats are a way of doing something nice for your friends, neighbors, coworkers, family members, really whoever you want, to show them that you appreciate them!

How to make Christmas Pretzel M&M Hugs

Some of our favorite Christmas treats to make are also the easiest. These Christmas Pretzel M&M Hugs are something everybody loves because they are colorful and festive. Just 5 minutes in the oven!

Pretzels laid out on a baking sheet for Christmas Pretzel M&M Hugs

Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper and lay out as many pretzels as you would like to use. This is for fast & easy clean up later!

The square pretzels that we use are called Snyder’s Snaps. You can’t buy them everywhere, but we have been able to purchase them both at WalMart and on Amazon. Truth is, any mini pretzel will work for this recipe and it will taste just as good! Just use what you have.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F.  While the oven is preheating, unwrap the Hugs candies. This is probably the hardest part of this entire recipe!  As they are unwrapped, set one hug in the center of each pretzel.

Once they are all set up,  put the baking sheet into the oven for five minutes until the hugs are soft and glistening. They won’t be all the way melted but they will be ready for the next step.

*Please note – do not turn the oven higher than 200 degrees and watch the hugs carefully! As soon as they start to glisten you want to be ready to take them out. If you leave them for too long, they become a crazy, melty mess and they don’t turn out right!

Slightly melty Hershey's Hugs on top of the pretzels, right out of the oven.

Gently push one M&M candy into the center of each melty hug. The hug will spread out to cover the majority of the pretzel and although some will also squish through the bottom, the silicone liner or parchment paper will prevent them from sticking.

Continue until all of the hugs have M&M’s. Don’t worry about trying to be fast about it – the baking sheet is warm so the hugs will stay melty for long enough to get them all done.

If you have room, move the baking sheet to the refrigerator and allow them to cool. They are a lot easier to handle when the chocolate has solidified. In our house, the hard part is keeping our family out of them!

The salty pretzels and the sweet chocolate are crazy good together and they are the perfect little festive Christmas bite.
