Muddy Buddies

Sweet & Snacky

Muddy Buddies are known by many different names. Chex Muddy Buddies, Reindeer Chow, Muddy Munch, Puppy Chow… No matter what your family calls this snack, it is simple to make and great any time of year. It makes a really good amount as well.

In a large bowl measure out nine cups of Chex cereal. This can be any of the varieties – corn, wheat, rice or chocolate. Whatever you have on hand. In a medium bowl, combine one cup of chocolate chips, half a cup of peanut butter and 1/4 cup of butter. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for one minute.

Chances are after one minute, not everything is going to be all the way melted and that’s ok. Give it a stir and put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds.

Stir again and then add the vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.

Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal in the large bowl and stir until everything is fairly evenly coated. There is no way that they will all be coated – don’t even try. Stir them well then pour the whole bowl into a large Ziploc bag.

Add the powdered sugar to the top and seal the bag. Shake until the powdered sugar pretty much coats everything. Pour out onto a baking sheet covered in waxed paper to dry.

Once it has dried, if there is any chance that it will not be eaten right away, store it in a sealed container. I don’t bother with this part because literally my family is already eating it when it hits the baking sheet. Any extra just goes in a bowl on the counter. This is a quick and easy classic snack. Enjoy!
