For entertaining or for a delicious snack, homemade Air Fryer Apple Pie Bites are ready in minutes thanks to this quick and easy recipe using refrigerated crescent roll dough!
I’ve never been much of a baker. I mean, I make the occasional cookie here and there, like my absolute favorite Butterscotch Ranger Cookies and my family has been known to eat a whole batch of my Banana Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins but for the most part, baking is a special occasion event for me.
Please don’t get me wrong… just because I don’t bake all the time sure doesn’t mean that I don’t love baked goods – honestly, I do but a lot of recipes just make way too much. If I am baking just for the family, I make a lot of small batch recipes. This recipe is one of those!
I love this recipe because it is just so convenient. It makes just eight little apple pie bites and they cook so fast in the air fryer that they are ready to eat in about 15 minutes. You can even make them in the oven if you prefer. The point is, if you have an apple and some refrigerated crescent roll dough you are halfway there! So easy and seriously, so good. And my family ate them all in a day. No leftovers!
About the Ingredients
- Granny Smith Apple – Granny Smith Apples are a favorite for this recipe (and for apple pie) because they don’t fall apart when you bake them and their tart flavor provides a nice contrast to the sweetness of the sugar. It doesn’t have to be a Granny Smith apple for this recipe, pretty much any type of apple will do, but avoid Red Delicious apples for this because they don’t bake well!
- Crescent Roll Dough – Any refrigerated crescent roll dough brand will work. The flavor is provided by the caramel that develops as the brown sugar, cinnamon and butter cook together and flavor the dough.
- Room Temperature Butter – I use regular salted butter brought to room temperature. Unsalted would also work.
- Pecans – Pecans are optional. I originally didn’t think I would use them in this recipe but I think they really added a nice element to these Air Fryer Apple Pie Bites. You could substitute walnuts if you wanted, or leave all of the nuts out completely.
